Let’s Get to Know More About Mary…

Have you ever heard of 20 Questions?

Below you will find some interesting facts about Mary, her family and more!

 Name:

Mary Dell Mann Jones (My husband Bob was teased about marrying a “Mann” while we were engaged)

 Date of Birth:

December 31 – after all…they save the best for last, or at least that’s what my Daddy would say.

By the way, my Dad’s birthday was January 1st ( Daddy has been gone for almost 31 years)

When I was little he would wake me up just before midnight and give me my birthday “whipping” and when it struck midnight I would give him his. I told him one day…”Daddy, I don’t like these whippings, how about birthday kisses?” So from that day on it was Birthday Kisses!

 Hometown:

I was born in Washington, DC but when I was 3, I was adopted and moved to Burlington, NC. I love North Carolina and clam to be one of those good ‘ole NC girls! Remember…G.R.I.T.S. Girls Raised In The South!

Currently Reside:

For the last 10 years, my husband Bob and I have called Salisbury, NC home.

Spouse:

I have been blessed to marry my childhood sweetheart and love of my life, Bobby Alan Jones. Bob and I joke and say that we knew each other before we were born. What I mean by that is that his parents and my parents were very good friends and went everywhere together. In fact, our fathers were in service together. It seems as if I have always known Bob. We have been married for over 30 years…and still going strong!

Isn’t it amazing how God works?  He took a little girl that was being placed for adoption and allowed a couple in NC to adopt her that just happened to be the best friends with the parents of the young man that God selected for her! Isn’t God Amazing!

Children:

We are blessed with three grown children; Sonny, Amber and Ulle

Grandchildren:

We have 6 of the most beautiful, fantastic grandchildren anywhere…just ask us!

Sonny and his wife Kim have 2 children; Rebecca 13 and Matthew 7

Amber and her husband Tim have 2 children; Alan 7 and Jordan 3

Ulle and her husband Lars also have 2 children; Rebecca 13 (in June 09) and Oscar 10. To answer your question…yes it is hard to have two granddaughters with the name Rebecca. I gets hard when we all get together but unfortunately that is not too often. One Rebecca lives in NC and the other Rebecca lives in Sweden

Siblings:

I was raised as an only child but when I was in my 30’s I searched and found my biological family. I found out that I had a brother to die at birth, 2 sisters and a brother but we are not close. However, since I was in school my best friend and side kick has been Rita Broyles. She is not by sister by birth but my sister of my heart as well as my sister in the Lord. We also now have a ministry together called Friends Plus Two. Check us out on my “Friends Plus Two” page.

Home Church:

Both my husband and I claim Riverside Baptist Church, Graham, NC as our home church.

Placed Where I was Saved!

I was not raised in church like my husband. When we started dating him, I started attending Riverside Baptist Church. It was Sunday morning, December 30, 1979 and Rev. Curtis V. Oakley was giving the invitation. I don’t remember what he was preaching but I do remember dropping to my knees and asking the Lord to save me.

Favorite Song:

If you spend much time around me you will quickly find out that Amazing Grace is my favorite song. It gives me so much peace. God’s Grace is Amazing!

Favorite Verse:

John 10:27-30 It is a reminder that I am safe in the Almighty Hand of Jesus!

Favorite Vacation Spot:

I love the mountains and the beach; I see God’s beauty everywhere but my favorite is any where my family happens to be. Sweden is a beautiful and Israel will take your breath away. However, since all of our children and grandchildren live away from us… but being with family…that’s vacation!

Favorite Food:

That is a long list! I love Italian food, seafood, steak and anything else that falls under the category of FOOD!

Favorite Dessert:

Anything Chocolate!

Favorite Fruit:

I love oranges, strawberries…all types of fruit.

Favorite Sports:

I love to watch sports however, I am not very athletic. I like Pro Baseball (Atlanta Braves), College Basketball (Carolina Tarheels) and Pro Football (Carolina Panthers).

Favorite Store:

Any Store that is running a sale! I love shopping!!! I love to look for bargains. I hate to pay full price for anything. My friend Rita and I love to spend a day going to second hand stores.

Some of my Favorite Things:

I love pocketbooks, shoes, collecting lambs and all types of items that have Bible verses on them.

Favorite Childhood Memory:

When I was little we had a blackberry patch behind our house. I love to sneak down there and eat them till I got sick. When I came home I had blackberry stains all over my face, hands and my clothes. My mom would get so upset. After awhile she knew it was hopeless keeping me out of the berries so she just asked if I come to the house and put on some old clothes before I went down there… but somehow I never seemed to remember that part!

Most Embarrassing Moment:

Do you mean the time that I was in church and the elastic broke in my slip and it fell to my feet, or do you mean the time that I feel face first down the bowling alley during a tournament while the TV cameras were on me, or do you mean the time that I was in a hurry and went into the men’s restroom instead of the ladies, or do you mean….As you can see I could write a book. My name is not GRACE…first last or middle.  I have just learned to laugh at myself and go on. People are just people and we all do “dumb” things. Just remember that no matter what you do…Jesus Loves YOU!

 Something You Should Know:

One thing that you should know about me is that I have a special place in my heart for those with “special needs.” Our grandson, Matthew, has autism along with several other major physical problems. Even with everything he has to deal with on a daily basis, Matthew is a joy and a real blessing to our family. He is now 8 years old and doing well considering the challenges he faces daily.
